Abstract:
The paper presents the results of the design, fabrication, and experimental evaluation of a fluted roller-type metering device applied for paddy seed rowing machines. The experimental results showed that the fluted roller-type metering device met the main requirements of sowing germinated paddy seed in rows for two types of rice in Mekong River Delta. The correlation between the sowing seed mass and flute length was linear which was in agreement with the calculation. The coefficient of variation of the average sowing seed mass per unit time for each rowing was very small. In addition, the difference of the average sowing seed mass among sowing rows was 2,0% and 1,5% for long-grain rice and round grain rice, respectively. The mean broken seed percentage was low (< 1,0%). The device also exhibited a high uniformity in each sown rowing. Besides, the device with the flute diameter of 10 mm had a better performance than those with the flute diameter of 8 mm or 12 mm
