Abstract:
In this paper, an automotive proton exchange membrane fuel cell system is developed and modeled to investigate its behavior at different vehicle speeds. In order to ensure the system work well at different vehicle loads, a water and thermal management system is also designed to estimate the required power. The simulated results show that the auxiliary power of the water and thermal management system increases with increasing the power demand of the fuel cell. The total fuel cell power exponentially increases with increasing the vehicle velocity. Moreover, a similar trend is also observed for hydrogen fuel consumption at different vehicle speeds. The model can be helpful for the development of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell system in a specific application.
