Abstract:
Velocity distribution and pressure drop of the gas flow in Electrostatic precipitators (ESP) play an important role in the collection efficiency of ESP. This paper presents the preliminary results of experimental studies about the uniform distribution and the pressure drop of the gas velocity after the perforated plate in the collecting chamber. The experimental results show that the pressure drop in the chamber with the 16-circle-hole perforated plate is 60.7 Pa which is 44% and 31% improvement compared to that of the 1-circle-hole perforated plate (108.8 Pa) and 4-circle-hole perforated plate (74.5 Pa), respectively. In addition, the gas velocity distribution behind the perforated plate is more uniform compared with the case of the non-perforated plate. In addition, the gas velocity distribution is not considerably influenced by the circle-hole or square-hole shapes on the perforated plates. However, the size of holes has a significant impact on the velocity distribution in the chamber. The research results provide an approach for optimum design of the ESP with high collection efficiency.
