Abstract:
Today, the increasing complexity of services, applictions are running in the network systems. Therefore, the security design and implementations of network system is much needed for network administrator. One of most popular standard is 802.1X which is deffined by IEEE. 802.1X standard supports authentication issues to resolve the secure problems in the LAN and WLAN network infrastructure. The 802.1X is the authentication for media-level access control, implement the capability to permit or deny network connection, traffic policy and VLAN access control based on user and device identity. The 802.1X is used an authentication protocol called Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) encapsulated over LAN with Extensible Authentication Protocol Over LAN (EAPOL) name, there are many existing protocols for authentication as PPP, MD5, TLS, CHAP and RADIUS can be deployed in LAN or WLAN infrastructure. This paper will research more details about 802.1X, EAP and EAPOL to help secure for the LAN and WLAN infrastructure.
